Bank Holiday Buys

As the title suggests, this post is all about my latest purchases.
Its not very often i buy quite a few items at once, i normally just purchase things singly.

BUT,

I decided to treat myself to a few items when i went shopping on wednesday. I went with a list of what i was after and stuck to it pretty closely (which i can say is a big thing for me) And i even told myself no to some very nice jacket's in H&M

So here goes,

Primark Trainers, £6.00
Perfect for my holiday as i always seem to wreck whatever trainers i take away with me, these will be replacing my converse whilst away and no doubt will be orange by the time i get home.

Primark Shoes, £6.00
I have been after some lace-up flat shoes for a while, but whilst searching i came across these and though they were the perfect alternative. I have now worn these shoes and they are VERY comfortable.

Claires Accessories Phone Case, £6.00
My current phone case is looking a bit tired, so i thought i would try a new case. I love the look of bumper cases, but wanted my whole phone to be protected so this case is perfect for the bumper look with the protection of a clear back.

Claires Accessories earrings, £18.00
It has been years since i have purchased earrings from Claire's, but i couldn't resist this set as my everyday earrings needed replacing and this are just perfect. The gold toned earrings caught my eye also and i couldn't leave them behind.

Poundland face powder, £1.00
I have never used this face powder before, but i have used the brands lip liner and it does not disappoint. It is pigmented and long-lasting so hopefully the powder will be just as good.

So thats the lot from Wednesday, since then i have purchased a few more bits and bobs which shall be featured in my next post, so keep your eyes peeled.

2nd Year of Uni is over..

This past Friday marked the last day of my second year of University, and i can honestly say this academic year has been the most challenging yet!

Although the shortest year ever (8 months including Christmas and Easter breaks) i have been more productive than ever.
These past few months have seen me produce my best works.

So, to celebrate i have decided to show you my favourite works i have produced this year.

In September we started back knowing we needed to have a rough idea of which part of the industry we wanted to work within. I thought fashion, but through research and shoots i realised that post-production (or retouching) was where my heart was.

This is the first image i heavily retouched, changing the light, shadows, tone etc.
I shot quite a few images following the same form in the following months. before deciding to try some image restoration.

Talking old family photo's i "fixed" damaged portraits from as far back as the 1930's
They turned out great and i am continuing this project with every old, family image i find in such a state.

After this i moved on to more heavily and obviously retouched imagery which is where i currently am now.

Now i am currently working on extending a few bodies of work previously worked on and starting a few new projects.

Summer shall be full of idea generation and test shoots (along with personal work) for starting my third year of university and then moving into the vast world of photographic post-production

You can see more of my work here  - www.charlottebird.com

Contouring

One of the most famous current beauty trends is contouring.

Up until today i had watched countless videos of how the technique was done, but i had never tried it out for myself.

On Sunday i visited my nan and she gave me the magazine that comes with the news paper off a weekend. Inside was an article on contouring.

After reading through the magazine, it got me thinking about trying it for myself.
So, on Monday evening i ordered a palette from an Amazon company. It said this palette could be used for contouring, highlighting, colour correction and as a concealer.

Sounds amazing right!
I thought i would be waiting for a while to receive my palette, but today it turned up.

As i was just heading out to the gym i decided to open the packet and take a quick look before i went.

Now although it is quite small (i knew it would be) i am pretty pleased. Since i am a contouring novice i thought this would be a good way to practice and given that there are a few shades to choose from, it will help with me selecting which will worked best for me.

Back from the gym and running a few errands, i had a relaxing bath then decided to try out the palette.

Following the sheet from the magazine i applied the make-up from darkest to lightest shade (plus using a separate highlighter for under my eyes, one is included in the palette though)

Shade-wise i was not too adventurous this time, and i do believe now that i could have chosen slightly darker shades.

BUT

For my first attempt i must say i think it has turned out pretty well.

I think i did pretty well for my first attempt. I shall be trying this again in the morning, i can only get better at doing it - hopefully.

What do you think?

My Week

This week has been all about finishing off my 2nd year of University.
With the final assignment deadline looming, finishing off work and making sure everything is completed has been top of my priority list.

But,
On Wednesday we took a break from uni work and went down to London to see the 3rd years final degree show.

It was a very, very wet day, but it was also a very interesting and educational day. Seeing the gallery laid out made me realise just how quickly time has gone by and that this time next year it will be my work up in a London Gallery.

I didn't take many pictures whilst there, due to the weather, but here are a few images i did take.

Ed&Ad Degree Show, The Conningsby Gallery, Tottenham Street, London

The Chinese Photobook Show, The Photographers Gallery

The Photographers Gallery

Lunch at Pizza Express on Charlotte Street, London

Bank Holiday Weekend

This past weekend was the first of the May bank holiday's. So as many people do Jason and myself decided that we would go out for the day and spend some time doing something fun.

We spent Saturday and Sunday toying with ideas as to where we could go; then on Sunday evening we decided upon the local Black Country Museum.

On Monday morning Jason picked me up and we drove to the museum only to discover the queues were MASSIVE!!
Not wanting to spend 2 hours queuing, we decided to drive out to Stourport - a small town on the banks of the river Seven.

After an hour (or maybe more) of traffic we got to Stourport and took our picnic blanket and chilled on the grass eating ice cream and doughnuts.
After a while we decided to go and play mini-golf (sadly i lost) and we then continued to walk along the river back to the car.

We planned on going to a pub for some dinner, but decided against this and got a Pizza and drink from the supermarket and chilled in-front of the tv for the rest of the evening.

Considering the weather was supposed to be pretty awful, it held for most of the day and we had a great, chilled out time.

What i wore
Jacket- Topshop
Jeans - River Island
Tee - Primark
Boots - H&M
Bag - New Look

Sat in traffic in the car FOREVER!!

I hope you all had a great weekend, and didn't spend too much time in traffic x
